Smart locks are only as good as the install and the setup. A lock that doesn't align cleanly with the strike binds the motor and eats batteries. A Wi-Fi lock paired to a weak signal drops offline. We install the hardware, align the strike, pair the app, set up guest codes, and test every feature before we leave.

Which smart lock should I buy?
Most reliable keypad: Schlage Encode Plus (Wi-Fi built in, Apple Home Key). Best for rentals: Yale Assure Lock 2 (simple code management, great app). Best budget: Kwikset Halo. Avoid the $50 no-name smart locks on Amazon, the failure rate is high and the apps often stop getting updates.
Can you install a smart lock I already bought?
Yes. We install customer-supplied smart locks for a labor-only rate. We'll flag if your door prep or strike alignment is going to cause problems before we install.
Do smart locks work during a power outage?
Yes. Every reputable smart lock runs on batteries (usually 4x AA) and operates whether or not power or Wi-Fi is up. You lose app control during a Wi-Fi outage, but the keypad and physical override key still work.
How often do batteries need replacing?
In a clean install with good strike alignment: 9–12 months for 4 AA batteries on a Schlage Encode. A binding install cuts that to 3–4 months. We align the strike so the motor never has to force the bolt.
Can my existing deadbolt be converted to a smart lock?
Sometimes. August and Level Bolt make retrofit smart locks that install on the inside of your existing deadbolt, your outside hardware and keys stay the same. Works on most standard deadbolts. We install and pair.
